Domain Renewal Options
You can choose 1, 2 or 3-year renewal intervals in your client portal - or longer by reaching out to us.
After we register a domain for you or transferring one into our care, we recommend setting your domains to auto-renew and we'll default to that setting in your portal.
The domains registrar will send you reminder emails 90, 60, 30, 15, 7, 3 and 1 days before the expiry date to remind you to take action to renew the domain.
If you receive a domain renewal reminder email for 30 days, chances are your domain is not set to auto-renew and an invoice will not have been generated - you need to manually renew the domain.
Auto-Renewal:
You should ensure that you have plenty of time to keep your domain(s) registered by setting them to Auto-Renew within the client portal (see below)
This will auto-generate a domain renewal invoice 60 days before the domain renewal due date and leave it unpaid in your portal.
However, early invoicing is not the same as early payment.
We don't assume you want to keep the domain, so the invoice's due date will be the domain's expiry date.
If you have a card saved in the system and your default billing preference is set to credit card, the system will attempt to process your payment on the invoice due date.
We advise you to pay the renewal invoice early, so that a failed card payment or any other issue does not place your domain registration at risk - and also so that the repeat expiry reminder emails don't divert your attention away from your business!
Once the payment is made and processed, you'll get both a payment confirmation and a domain renewal confirmation email - bank transfer payments will have their domain renewals processed after we reconcile the payment with our bank.
If all goes well and the payment is processed, that's the last you'll hear about the domain renewal until the next expiry date...
If your card payment fails for any reason, the system will try again once a week for 2 weeks and email you to let you know what happened - but your domain may already have expired - in this case you should call us to manually re-attempt the card payment or send a bank transfer and call/email us to quickly renew your domain registration and restore your service.
Setting Auto-Renew Status:
Within your client account, click on 'Domains' > 'My Domains' in the top menu and select the checkbox next to the domain that you wish to set to Auto-Renew.
The domain will have a red cross next to it and the words 'Auto Renew' if this is not already activated:
To change the domain to Auto Renew, you may select the 'More' drop down and click on 'Auto Renewal Status' and click 'Enable Auto Renew'
A domain with Auto Renew enabled will appear with a green tick next to the words 'Auto Renew':
Manual Renewal:
If you've switched off auto-renew for this domain or your auto-renew invoice was not yet paid for any reason, then at any time before expiry you may renew your domain manually via your client portal at: https://ranges.technology/client-portal
Once you've logged in, go to Domains > Renew Domains > {{domain}} and add your preferred renewal period to the cart.
Once you've checked out and paid the invoice, the system will automatically renew the domain at the registry for you and you'll receive a confirmation email.
Domain Deletion:
If you choose not to renew your domain for any reason, you can switch off 'Auto Renew' in the client portal as above.
You'll still receive the reminder emails, though you can safely ignore them and await the expiry date to pass.
After the expiry date, you'll receive a 'Domain Expired' email.
The domain will then go into an expiry hold status, where the registrar will mark the domain as 'for removal', at which time any hosting or mail services associated with the domain will cease to function.
This does not necessarily mean that those associated services will also be cancelled or cease to be billed, just that the domain will cease to function - please ensure that you cancel any other services associated with that domain if you no longer require them.
You may also let us know by email that you no longer wish to keep the domain, and we can change the email recipient on the domain so the reminder emails don't bother you again. The domain will still expire on time, but you won't be further hassled by the reminders.
If you require any other assistance with your domain renewals, please reach out to us.
